If we knew yesterday that Prince William was the inspiration for a new caped-crusading trend in Hollywood, we would have paid more heed to his long flowing man-robe.
The women of Tinseltown were a site for sore eyes on Tuesday at the Crystal + Lucy Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.
Nicole Richie put her own spin on the British Royals' fashion statement with a California-style cape and matchingdrapes dress.
Debra Messing opted for a robe... a straight up ROBE! And yes, it was also in line with the royal dress code at William's knighting ceremony.
Here are our non-robe, non-cape inspired observations:
Meg Ryan (black sleeveless dress) and Annette Bening (in yellow muumuu) clasped hands... a little too long.
Maria Bello looked amazing in a white, strapless pencil dress. Sasha Alexander wore a black cocktail dress and her lovah (?) Edoardo Ponti dressed in a fabulous velvet-satin suit.
Lisa Edelstein (white ensem with granny-style white sandals), Ginnifer Goodwin wore flowy white with black trim up top and her man Chris Klein was in a grey suit with and awesomly thin neck tie.
Cameron Diaz donned red and white; Rachael Harris in black, scoop neck, stretchy tank dress; Samantha Harris in shiny, black, belted strapless number; Salma Hayek was all business in a belted black suit dress; Jeffrey Katzenberg and his wife Marilyn Katzenberg; Apollonia Kotero in red -- va va vavoom! Lori Loughlin in a black halter dress; Debi Mazar in green; Eva Mendes in long black gown; Jennifer Morrison in weird fluffy white top and black skirt; Holly Robinson Peete in shiny lime; Jada Pinkett Smith smokin' in silver; Mariana Renteria in a long black gown with a thick black satin belt; Tracee Ellis Ross in white and silver Spock dress; Aisha Tyler in purple with a hot pink purse; Amy Yasbeck in black satin strapless.

Have you heard of Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor who wrote the current bestseller "My Stroke of Insight"? Taylor was a Harvard trained brain scientist who suffered a massive stroke. I don't think we'll ever hear a story like this - Taylor understands how the brain functions and she was able to observe her mind deteriorating. She writes about the euphoric nirvana and a sense of complete peace and well-being she discovered in her stroke and she talks about this in her incredible (don't miss it) talk on TED.com. In the book, Taylor explains how to 'step to the right of their left brain' to uncover a deep internal peace. Meg Ryan was in the audience when Dr. Taylor gave her speech at TED... hey, maybe she'll do the movie and we'll all be able to "have what she's having" to reprise that line from When Harry Met Sally : ) Sign me up!
